Full-Time (40 Hours per Week) Remote with Travel
The Alabama Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AL-AAP) is hiring a Reach Out & Read Alabama Program Manager. Reach Out & Reach-Alabama is an AL-AAP program and a national Reach Out and Read affiliate. Thanks to this program, for over 20 years in Alabama trusted clinicians have been supporting families in building early literacy skills, fostering curiosity and empathy, and strengthening parent-child bonds from birth through age 5. AL-AAP is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and the only statewide member organization for pediatricians, representing both academic and community pediatrics in both urban and rural areas. Our mission is to obtain optimal health and well-being for all children in Alabama, and to provide educational and practice support for its membership so the highest quality of medical care can be achieved.

Position Summary
The Program Manager is responsible for supporting Reach Out and Read Alabama (ROR-Alabama) sites through program implementation, quality improvement, technical assistance, data management, communications, and relationship building. The Program Manager reports directly to the ROR-Alabama Statewide Director with general oversight by the AL-AAP Executive Director and works collaboratively with pediatric healthcare providers, clinic staff, community partners, and the National ROR Center to ensure program delivery and adherence to best practices.
Duties and Responsibilities
Program Administration
Maintain accurate and current data within the myROR database.
Ensure annual completion of Site Quality Classification (SQC) requirements for all participating sites.
Monitor and support clinics in the timely completion of twice-yearly progress reports.
Guide new program sites through the application process, clinician training, program implementation, and adherence to best practices.
Attend monthly National Center Program meetings.
Attend bimonthly affiliate meetings.
Attend quarterly Alabama Advisory Council meetings.
Plan and facilitate Site Coordinator Calls and other educational opportunities for participating clinics.
Provide information and support to clinics regarding partnership, funding, and community engagement opportunities.
Attend relevant community, coalition, and stakeholder meetings to represent Alabama.
(Note: Some meetings are virtual.)
Communications and Outreach
Collaborate with the ROR-Alabama Communications Specialist to provide regular communications to participating sites through email, newsletters, social media, and other channels.
Assists with implementation and promotion of statewide initiatives, including:
Rx for Summer Reading
Grandparents and Parents Program (GPP)
Other literacy and early childhood development campaigns as assigned.
Support outreach efforts to increase awareness of ROR - Alabama among healthcare providers, community organizations, and stakeholders.
Site Support and Technical Assistance
Support pediatric clinics in book selection, ordering, inventory management, and efficient book-tracking.
Provide in-person and virtual technical assistance and consultation to participating sites.
Develop and maintain positive relationships with clinical and administrative staff to provide ongoing support and program guidance.
Assist sites in identifying and implementing quality improvement strategies.
Monitor program fidelity and provide recommendations to ensure adherence to standards and best practices.
Conduct site visits and support clinic onboarding, training, and program sustainability efforts.
Attend relevant community and coalition meetings.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of early childhood development, literacy promotion, family engagement, and pediatric healthcare settings.
Understanding of nonprofit program management, quality improvement, and performance measurement.
Experience with data management, reporting, and program evaluation.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and virtual meeting platforms.
Ability to analyze data, develop reports, and monitor program outcomes.
Strong relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote, multi-team member environment.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities, maintain confidentiality, and exercise sound judgement.
Ability to travel throughout Alabama for site visits, meetings, and trainings.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in public health, education, healthcare administration, nonprofit management, communications, social work, or related field.
Experience managing multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities with minimal supervision.
Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and virtual meeting platforms.
Experience with data tracking and report preparation.
Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with healthcare providers and program partners.
Ability and willingness to travel statewide throughout Alabama.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and use a computer for extended periods.
Ability to lift and transport books, program materials, and supplies.
Ability to travel, primarily in-state, to conduct site visits, attend meetings, trainings, conferences, and other program-related events.
Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends as needed to support program activities and special events.
Transportation Requirements
Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
Access to a reliable personal vehicle for statewide travel.
Current automobile liability insurance meeting state minimum requirements.
Ability and willingness to travel independently throughout Alabama as required by the position.
Salary is commensurate with experience within the range set for the position, which starts at $47,000 and includes a health insurance stipend and retirement match.
Funding Contingency
This position is funded through grants, contracts, and other programmatic funding sources. Continued employment at the full-time level is contingent upon the availability of funding and the ongoing program needs.
