The Alabama Association of School Boards is looking for a Meetings & Events Manager to join our dynamic, team-oriented environment.
Founded in 1949 and headquartered in Montgomery, AASB providesmembers with a wide array of services, including boardmanship training, risk management programs, legal assistance, advocacy and policy research for all the state’s local school boards.
This position reports directly to the director of public relations and manages all facets of meeting and event planning, including on- and off- site meetings, conferences, the association’s annual statewide convention & delegate assembly and special events. Responsibilities include overseeing all event logistics, researching and selecting speakers, facilitating communications with speakers and presenters, negotiating venue contracts; recruiting event sponsors and exhibitors, tracking meeting data; budget planning and monitoring; collaborating on theproduction and design of event publications as well as digital and print event promotions; and writing event scripts. This position also is responsible for managing all facets of the association’s professionalbusiness partner program, which includes cultivating and maintaining existing partner relationships and actively researching and pursuing new partner relationships.
Qualifications include a bachelor's degree and 3 to 5 years event/meeting planning, marketing or hospitality industry experience. The positionrequires strong writing skills, proven negotiating and decision-making skills, outstanding people and communication skills and excellent organizational, time management, follow-through and problem-solving skills. Must be a detail oriented, self-starter who is calm under pressure and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.

Some travel and weekend work required (about 4 to 6 times a year for events).
